Why do we feel the presence of light even when we close our eyes?

There is a theory is that the light we often feel or see, even when our eyes are closed and covered, is often coming from our memory. Of course, this is only for those curious ones, who are interested to know more.

Dr WH Bates, the eminent Eye Surgeon of the last Century, made an extra ordinary mark in researches on Vision Perception. He said that there is something beyond physical eyesight or falling of image on retina and cognition in the vision center of the brain by associating the image with knowledge in memory.

The senses of touch, taste, smell and hearing are absolutely effortless, because their organs are fixed and the signals they send are merely perceived in the senses centers of the brain by constantly associating images with recorded ones in memory.

However, among 5 sense organs, only in the case of eyesight, there are additional mechanical or muscular movements, for focusing the sharp pictures on retina, which has to be accurately accommodated by external eye muscles, by using the ping (echo request or to & fro signals from memory).

The main difference between Dr Bates’ system of Natural Eyesight without glasses and the Modern System of Eyesight with Glasses or the Surgical Procedure is that they presume ‘different sets of muscles’ are responsible for accurate focus or accommodation of pic on retina.

Dr Bates, who performed hundreds of operations on eyes said that the ‘3 pairs of external eye muscles/ actually compress the globe for sharp focus. Modern Specialists believe the Internal Ciliary Muscles compress the lens for accurate focus. However, now comes the point relating to the question. The light we see even with closed eyes, is often the residue of light from images in memory.

Most important point of his discovery of Dr Bates is as follows. He said that to find out whether one has perfect eyesight, this simple experiment can be made. Sit comfortably on a chair with elbows on the table. Cover the eyes with palms with fingers overlapping on one another in a right angle. Ensure no light passes through. Now if one can see a dark black spot or period, even in the midst of the total or absolute darkness, then one can be said to have the perfect eyesight also.

Amazing discovery by Bates, who also happened to be staying close by to J Krishnamurti in Ohai Valley, CA., perhaps during early 20th Century. JK, Bates and also another great man Aldous Huxley were reportedly meeting almost daily for many days and discussed subjects of mutual interest, which according to me ultimately hovered around the role and functions of human Consciousness also.

Because only in the above state, the external eye muscles, retina and the vision center are free and relaxed and are also in sync with each other, but also entirely disconnected from memory. One can’t see absolute darkness, unless and until the muscles are free and relaxed. Many or most people often claim and presume what they see during palming is absolute darkness, but then probably they may not have actually perceived what is absolute darkness.

What is often intriguing to me is that why this curiosity in young people is fast eroding or becoming extinct. Are human beings becoming entirely mechanical and getting immersed only in the old theories given by our leaders and unable to look at the amazing ability of freedom and independence of Consciousness?
